Event Notes
Coppélia is an enchanting family ballet for the young and old alike! It is based on the story "Der Sandmann" (The Sandman) by E.T.A. Hoffman. The ballet tells the story of a beautiful young girl named Coppélia who sits on her balcony reading all day and doesn't speak to anyone. A boy named Franz falls in love with her even though he is already engaged to Swanhilda. Swanhilda sees Franz blowing kisses at Coppélia and gets very jealous! She soon learns that Coppélia is actually a doll that belongs to Dr. Coppélius, a mad scientist. She decides to impersonate the doll in order to win the love of Franz. Chaos ensues but all is soon forgiven. Love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity and the finale is a joyful celebration of Swanhilda and Franz's wedding!
Choreography by Alexandra Thorpe & Ashley Feyrer after Marius Petipa Music by Léo Delibes PLEASE BE ADVISED: THE FIRST ROW OF THE BALCONY HAS A PARTIALLY OBSTRUCTED VIEW DUE TO A SAFETY RAILING.
